FARMLEIGH Estate in Phoenix Park will come alive this weekend when thousands of Dubliners will delight to the sights and sounds of Africa.
Supported by Irish Aid, Africa Day takes place on Sunday (May 21) from 11am 6pm and the event has grown over the past decade into a massive, magnificent multi-cultural celebration.
It features free public performances by well-known African and Irish musicians, children’s entertainment, traditional African drumming, dance workshops and cultural performances.
This year’s acts include Kíla, AikJ, Discovery Gospel Choir, Yankari and Pop Dogg, who’ll be performing across three stages of live music.
The event will also feature African arts and crafts, sports activities and plenty of delicious ethnic foods for visitors to enjoy.
Minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development Joe McHugh says anybody with an interest in connections between Ireland and Africa should head down to Farmleigh on Sunday.
“Irish Aid’s Africa Day flagship event at Farmleigh is a great occasion for families and friends to celebrate African culture and the strong bonds that exist between Ireland and the continent of Africa,” he said.
