A TROOP of talented cheerleaders from Finglas are asking the local community to get behind their team who are taking part in the US All Star Federation Cheerleading World Championships.
The local Strike Force Snipers are heading out to Florida for the championships later this month where they’ll be up against the world’s best teams.
The Snipers are a mixed male and female team from Strike Force All Star Cheer program, which has a total of 23 athletes aged 13-21. And they’ll be flying the flag for Finglas and Ireland when they fly out on April 26.
The Strike Force Snipers competed at The World Cheerleading Championships in 2015, where they made it to the finals of the competition.
They’ll be hoping to at least repeat that success when they perform a jam-packed routine made up of an athletic combination of stunts, tumbling, jumps, tosses and dance.
Funding is always a problem for international events and Strike Force Snipers are calling on the local community and businesses to back them in their effort.
“As we are from a disadvantaged area, we require everybody’s help to get us out there and looking our best for our country when we are up against these top teams from around the world,” said Finglas Strike Force assistent coach and team member, Robyn Cassidy
The team has launched a ‘Fly the Flag’ sponsorship campaign, whereby for a minimum donation of €20 businesses can have their company or individual name or wording of choice printed onto a huge Irish flag, which will be flown with pride in the USA.
