A PROMISING teenage kickboxer from Ballymun is celebrating after becoming Revenge Junior World Low Kick Champion.
Jennifer ‘Baby Wild Thing’ Molloy from Fight Club Kickboxing, Dublin, travelled recently to Montefiascone, Italy, and put in a great performance at the Revenge Gala evening show.
The event was run by Umberto Lucci and Michele Lepadatu, along with seven-time World Champion Barbara ‘the one’ Delaney and Fight Club head instructor and Jenny’s father, Ken Molloy.
The Low Kick World Title fight started even enough through the first round until a blistering straight right from 16-year-old Jennifer buckled the legs of her opponent, Federica Testa, causing her to take a standing eight-count.
Only the bell saved Jenny’s opponent from being knocked out completely.
Jennifer took over the fight at that point causing another knockdown in the second round.
The young Northsider continued her onslaught but somehow Testa managed to hang on for the final bell. By the end of the fight there was only one outcome, with Jennifer winning every round.
Jennifer has being hovering around World title honours for a while now and the Testa fight was her night to join the elite crowd that can call themselves a World Champion!
Also on the show, Barbara ‘’The One’ Delaney dusted off the cobwebs to step back into the ring after over two years. Unfortunately Barbara’s opponent pulled out a week before the show leaving Babs to do a demo fight against Tiziana Cherubini.
The much more experienced Delaney gave the crowd an exhibition of her ring style but still allowed Tiziana to show her skills off.
After the bout Tiziana took to the microphone to give Barbara a heartfelt thank you and to say how honoured she was to be in the same ring as her.
Both Dublin girls will soon be training out of Fight Club’s new gym, which will be opening soon in North Strand.
