Young local coders set for RDS event

THE Northside’s brightest young coders will reveal their latest creations when they appear at Ireland’s biggest technology event, the CoderDojo Coolest Projects Awards, later this month.

More than 50 young coders from local CoderDojos in DCU, Malahide, Howth and the CHQ building will take part in this year’s event, which takes place in the RDS, Dublin on June 18 from 9.30am-6pm.

Their projects include a personal safety app that shares your location with trusted contacts, a laser cutter made from recycled CD drives and a website that highlights the problems with sugar.

“Coolest Projects provides the bridge from learning coding skills at local CoderDojos to innovating and creating future employment,” said Coolest Projects co-founder Noel King.

“We are the piece in the middle which makes the connection.”

Over 10,000 people are expected at the RDS for the free event when the local youngsters join more than 800 young innovators from across Ireland and Europe to take part in the fifth annual awards.

This year’s event sees the introduction of Launch’d – an essential platform for the Coolest Projects kids, tech professionals and anyone considering a career in coding.

Launch’d features 100 of Ireland’s top tech start-up companies, as well as 50 speakers over four stages.

Coolest Projects is supported by Intel, Microsoft, Symantec, Bank of Ireland, Folens, Openet, Virgin Media and RTE. Some tickets are still available for the free event. See coolestprojects.org and launchd.io for details.
