Fingal County Council approves planning for LDA development at Stapolin

The Land Development Agency has welcomed a “significant milestone” for its development at Stapolin Square.

Fingal County Council has approved a planning amendment submission which paves the way for 596 new Starter Homes, community amenities and enhancements to the original design for the development.

In a statement, the LDA said:

“Stapolin Square will create a new active and welcoming heart in the village centre.

“Featuring retail, café, and commercial spaces, the square will also include a playground at the Longfield Road end and dedicated areas for people to gather and connect.

“This will transform it from a simple thoroughfare into a vibrant community hub.

“The design now incorporates a permanent, accessible, gently sloped ramp linking Longfield Road to Clongriffin Station.

“This will greatly improve access for the local community, while also supporting public transport integration.

“A key priority for the LDA is the provision of safe and accessible access to the train station.

“This enhanced design will deliver much-improved, permanent universal access via Stapolin Square.  The temporary access tower will remain in operation until the new permanent route is completed. Once open, the temporary tower will be removed.”

Other improvements include:

Head of Property at the Land Development Agency, Robert Farrell said: “We’re excited to have taken another important step towards delivering almost 600 new Starter Homes and excellent amenities in Stapolin.

“The changes approved will enhance the quality of the development for current and future residents, while ensuring the scheme responds to evolving housing and community needs.

“Stapolin Square will provide not only much-needed homes, but also the facilities and public spaces that are essential to create a thriving community.

“The enlarged crèche, additional outdoor areas, improved apartment layouts and new universally accessible connection to Clongriffin train station will significantly enhance the living experience for residents.

“This development reflects the LDA’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable and well-connected communities, and we look forward to progressing the project to construction.”

Director of Housing of Fingal County Council, Paul Carroll said: “This approval marks a significant milestone in the development of Stapolin Square and in the ongoing growth of this part of north Dublin.

“The revised plans will deliver high-quality homes alongside valuable community infrastructure, helping to create a vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood.

“The enhancements approved, including improved access to public transport, expanded childcare provision and increased outdoor amenity space, demonstrate a strong focus on placemaking and quality of life.

“By creating better connections and community facilities, this development will support residents and contribute positively to the wider area.

“Fingal County Council has a strong working relationship with the Land Development Agency with projects already underway in Balbriggan, Skerries and Kinsealy and we look forward to Stapolin Square becoming the latest development for future Fingal residents to call home.”
