Do not Swim notice issued for Velvet Strand Portmarnock

Following notification from Uisce Éireann of overflow incidents at the Portmarnock Strand Pump Station late yesterday evening, a Do Not Swim notice has been issued for Velvet Strand, Portmarnock.

In a statement, Fingal County Council said:

“The likely cause of the overflow incidents is heavy rainfall. Resampling of the water quality is being arranged.

“While the beach is still open to the public, beach users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notice as it has been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised.

“Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at https://www.beaches.ie/ or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.”
