The delay in opening Belmayne Main Street, part of the new road from Clongriffin to Belmayne, has been criticised at a meeting of Dublin City Council.
Sinn Fein Councillor Mícheál Mac Donncha said the delays were “unacceptable” and answers were required from Council officials and developers.
In a report to the local community forum, the Road Construction Division of the City Council states that Belmayne Main Street is providing access for three large developments in the area to be completed in mid 2024 and in 2025.
The report also states that the road “will be opened fully when the NTA receive planning approval for BusConnects1”.
Speaking at the October monthly meeting of the City Council, Councillor Mac Donncha (pictured above) said the report was “confusing and unacceptable.”
“It is very far from clear when this vital road for the residents of Belmayne and the wider area will be opened,” he said.
“Is it dependent on the BusConnects project getting planning approval?
Or does it depend on building developments being completed on time?
“How long will this street on which people live be allowed to continue as a builders’ service road?
“Belmayne is a densely populated area with few amenities. Yet the most basis’ amenity of a Main Street is still tied up in this way.
“This is not fair to the residents of Belmayne and Clongriffin and the wider area.
“I will continue to press the Council on this vital infrastructure and urge its opening without further delay.”
