Fingal County Council say that following the latest Bathing Water results for samples taken on July 11th a Do Not Swim Prohibition has been issued for Rush North Beach and a Prior Warning Notice has been put in place for Velvet Strand Portmarnock due to Status Yellow rain warning.
All identified bathing water samples of 11th July have met the standard for “excellent” apart from the following beaches;
- Front Strand, Balbriggan (All Season Advisory in place), South Strand beach, Skerries, Loughshinny beach, and Claremont beach, Howth have met the standard for “good”. Re-samples being arranged.
- Rush North has met the standard for “Poor” and a temporary Prohibition (Do not Swim) Notice is being issued and an investigation has started – see attached notice.
The non-identified bathing area at Malahide also met the standard for “excellent”.
The council also say that due to the forecasted heavy rainfall (yellow warning) tomorrow (14/7/23) and the potential for deterioration in water quality a prior warning notice will be issued for Velvet Strand, Portmarnock following consultation with the HSE.
The next scheduled bathing water quality sample collection is taking place on 17th July, 2023.
Please be advised that after a heavy rainfall event it is important to avoid contact with the water for at least 48 hours to prevent the risk of getting a recreational water illness.
