Marino community invited to bring objects and share stories about the past

Dublin City Council and the Heritage Council are supporting a series of events celebrating the upcoming 100th anniversary of the development of Marino.

The Marino Residents Association and heritage consultants, Abarta Heritage, are organising a Show & Tell Story Sharing Event on Saturday June 24th from 2pm to 4.30pm

Marino and Fairview residents are invited to come along to the Carleton Community Hall on the day and share stories about the area, bring along objects or artefacts from the past and hear about the heritage project.

In 1924, construction was underway to create Marino and the surrounding garden suburbs on what was then the edge of Dublin city.

The Heritage Council and Dublin City Council granted funding to the Marino Residents Association to carry out a heritage project to celebrate the developments that have taken place here over the last century.

This project gathers stories, memories, folklore, and historical and archaeological information about the area and compiles a detailed heritage audit with recommendations for future developments.

An online story-sharing platform will allow the community to contribute information about people who lived in the area or events that took place, memories, photographs and audio clips, enhancing our understanding and awareness about the area’s development.

Marino Residents Association has commissioned Abarta Heritage to carry out this work.

They will host a series of story-sharing events over the summer, and the first will take place on June 24th.

All are welcome to attend to find out more about the project and share old objects or memorabilia as well as their memories and stories about life in Marino in the past.

This event is FREE and open to all at Carleton Hall (Marino Community Centre) on Saturday, June 24th, from 2 – 4.30 pm.
