Millmount Wheelers raise €15,000 for Breast Cancer Research

The Millmount Wheelers cycling group hosted a special charity cycle on Saturday, October 1 to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research at the Beaumont Hospital Foundation and honour the late Ellen Gormley who passed away earlier this year.

This was the first charity cycle held by the local group since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This year’s charity was the Beaumont Hospital Foundation in memory of Ellen Gormley who unfortunately lost her life at the young age of 26,” Millmount Wheelers member Fran Ryan said.

Ellen was diagnosed with breast cancer in December last year and passed away in April.

“The day consisted of a 50km cycle and a 15km walk and roughly 80 people took part,” Ryan said.

“The cycle and walk started from the Millmount House by Dublin hurlers Eoghan O’Donnell and Daire Grey and also finished back at the Millmount House.”

Later that evening cycle participants and local residents gathered at Millmount House where a bumper raffle was held with prizes being donated from local shops, restaurants, and bars.

“In all, a very successful day and night was had by all and at this stage it looks like a figure in excess of €15,000 will be raised,” Fran said.
