Fingal LCDC approves CEP funding for community and voluntary groups across the region

Ballyboughal Boxing Club

Fingal’s Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) has approved the allocation of over €152,000 to community and voluntary groups across the region under the 2021 Community Enhancement Programme.

The Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and was launched nationally in May by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, and the Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Joe O’Brien TD.

A total of 81 grants will be paid to groups across the region under the 2021 Scheme. The scheme aims to:

The CEP provides a flexible and targeted approach to funding those communities most in need and is aimed at addressing disadvantage as identified in the Fingal Local Economic and Community Plan and also at this time supporting local community and voluntary groups with reopening costs as a result of COVID 19.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Seána Ó Rodaigh, welcomed the grant approvals and said, “The Community Enhancement Programme supports a range of investment in all areas of the community, among them childcare groups, recreational groups, sports grounds, support services, and the elderly among many others. This funding will help many groups and clubs get back on their feet and is very welcome in our communities”.

AnnMarie Farrelly, Fingal County Council’s Chief Executive said “I welcome the approval by the LCDC of this funding which will greatly assist community groups in delivering their projects and restarting their projects in many cases. The level of funding available recognises the important role played by community and voluntary groups in addressing disadvantage in our communities”

Emer O’Gorman, Director of Services in the Council’s Economic Enterprise Tourism and Cultural Development Department said “CEP Scheme is a great source of funding for Community and Voluntary Groups and compliments many of the funding and support initiatives available through Fingal County Council. A vibrant community and voluntary sector are vital to the Covid19 recovery and this scheme will help many in the sector to get back to what they do best”

Declan Ryan, Chief Officer of the Fingal LCDC said “The CEP Schemes have proven very popular again this year and every effort was made by the LCDC to support as many projects and groups as possible, particularly those negatively impacted by Covid 19 restrictions. The LCDC looks forward with confidence to further supporting local community and voluntary groups into the future”
