The Government plan to announce further Covid-19 restrictions for the whole country after a Cabinet meeting today.
Currently Dublin is at Level 3 as it the rest of the country apart from Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan who are at Level 4.
It is expected the new measures will contain elements of both Level 4 and Level 5 restrictions from the Government’s ‘Living With Covid-19’ plan.
An announcement on the Government’s decision will be made at around 9pm tonight.
Speaking yesterday on RTE’s ‘The Week in Politics,’ Higher Education Minister Simon Harris said further restrictions to be announced today will be “decisive and nationwide”.
“It is clear now the virus is at such a level that a county by county approach is not sufficient,” he said.
“The reason the Government is taking the time to work their way through all the issues is so that when we act it can be decisive and nationwide.
“And also so that we can move from a period of having to take different actions every couple of days because I think that uncertainty is really getting to people.”
The Department of Health was notified of three further deaths and 1,283 additional cases of Covid-19 in latest figures revealed yesterday
