€158,254 granted to assist Fingal towns and villages respond to Covid-19

A local Councillor has said €158,254 has been provided to projects in Skerries, Balbriggan, Swords and Malahide to help these towns and villages adapt to Covid-19. 

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, today announced details of a further 137 rural towns and villages that will benefit from €4.3 million in funding to help them adjust to COVID-19 restrictions.

The funding is being delivered under the Accelerated Measure of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme which is in addition to the initial funding for 2020 announced in the summer.

Fine Gael Councillor Tom O Leary, said: “I am delighted that Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has announced the expansion of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

“This scheme has always been a vital source of funding to help revitalise towns and villages in Fingal however it is more important than ever in the context of Covid-19

“The funding announced today will assist our towns and villages to implement immediate measures that will encourage people into towns and villages to shop and socialise, while adhering to public health guidelines.

“It is important we generate economic activity while keeping the people of Fingal safe. The aim is to allow for social distancing and to make towns and villages more welcoming.

“Skerries €39,508 for purchase of gazebos to expand Farmers Market, Swords €39,586 for 40 cabins for Swords Castle Market, Balbriggan €39,580 for 25 cabins, benches and planters artist craft units, Malahide €39,580 for log Cabins, planters benches.

“These projects have been identified by Fingal Co Council in conjunction with local community groups and businesses.

“Applications under the Standard Measure of the Town & Village Renewal Scheme, which will support the medium-term recovery of rural towns and villages from the impacts of COVID-19 are currently being assessed.

“The successful projects will be announced when that process is complete.”
