M50 motorists spent €158m on tolls last year

€158m was spent by motorists on paying tolls for the M50 last year according to newly released figures.

The 2019 annual report for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) revealed that on average 150,650 vehicles a day were using the Dublin motorway, a 4% increase on 2018.

The report also said that annual rates of growth in the numbers of vehicles on the M50 since 2010 has increased though this is expected to change due to “build up of congestion.”

Other figures revealed:

€9m of the €158m toll income came from from penalties, the cost of operating the M50 toll last year was €52m and there was 1,161 incidents on the M50 with 525 of them being traffic collisions.

The cost of operating the M50 toll in 2019 was €52m.

The report also found that Thursday is the busiest day on the motorway.
