Beach walker in Sutton rescued from rising tide

A walker on the beach in Sutton was rescued today after she fell and was trapped by the high tide.

At lunch time the Irish Coast Guard operations centre received an emergency call from the walker who had fallen and was trapped on the coastline between Claremont Beach and Burrow Beach in Sutton, north Dublin.

The Irish Coast Guard unit from Howth along with Fingal Lifeguards were tasked to the scene.

Rescuers got to the casualty as the tide was continuing to rise and assisted her to safety.

The casualty was assessed by ambulance paramedics but did not require any further medical assistance.

In a statement released following the rescue, the Irish Coast Guard reminded people to be aware of tides.

“We would advise people to plan their coastal walks and be aware of high tides, also to ensure they have a form of communication like a mobile phone in a secure pouch with them when walking the coastline,” they said.

“With lots of visitors travelling to the coast we would also be grateful if members of the public that witness somebody who they think may get into trouble to immediately contact the Coast Guard at 112 or 999.”
