NORTHSIDE commuters received a boost last week when the National Transport Authority (NTA) confirmed that the number 41 bus, which serves Swords and Dublin airport via the city centre, is set to become a 24-hour service.
The number 41 and number 15 routes will be trialled for the service from December 1.
Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee, Fianna Fáil’s candidate in the Dublin Fingal Bye-Election, was among the local public representatives to welcome the news.
Senator Clifford-Lee described the announcement as a major “game changer” for people working in late night industries such as pubs and restaurants in the city centre.
“I’m delighted with this announcement which will be a huge help to the people living in Swords who travel in and out of the city for work,” she said. “Many people work in industries that have later working hours than the norm.
“The 24-hour service will also help to serve workers at the airport which will be another huge benefit and a cheaper form of transport for people to commute in and out.”
Dublin Fingal TD Alan Farrell also welcomed the news.
“By making the number 41 a 24-hour service, many people in our local community can benefit from overnight transport links,” said Deputy Farrell.
“This will particularly benefit those who have to travel to or from work in the early hours.
“With the airport served by the number 41, this will be positive news for many airport and airline staff living in Swords.”
