A FINNISH delegation visited a Northside school recently to see first-hand its efforts to promote physical activity.
The delegation that visited Scoil Assaim in Raheny included school Principals and PE policymakers with an interest in the Active Schools Flag (ASF).
The Finnish 'On The Move' co-ordinators wanted to see how schools in Ireland were responding to the ASF programme. Scoil Assaim was one of three schools chosen as an exemplary school.
The delegates were shown the Active Walkway designed and created by the boys; they also observed a whole school activity and exercise session in the yard which was great fun!
The visitors had many questions for the boys on attitudes to exercise and healthy living in general; they were delighted with the boys' enthusiasm for the activities and their eagerness to engage with them.
The Finnish visitors, who received a warm TERVETULOA (welcome!) lamented the over-use of mobile phones in their own country and were delighted to see the boys running around and playing actively at break time.
It was a great learning experience for the boys who became the school's ambassadors for the day.
And we hope the Finnish learned a little something from us too!
