FINGAL County Council is moving forward with its first Affordable Housing Scheme, which is aimed at addressing some of the challenges faced by low-to-middle income earners in purchasing a property.
The council is seeking expressions of interest from development partners for the design, construction, delivery and sale of the scheme at Dun Emer in Lusk.
Some €1.5 million has been allocated for the reconstruction of Kilhedge Lane under the Government’s Serviced Site Fund established to provide key facilitating infrastructure, on public lands, to support the delivery of affordable homes to purchase or rent.
The council’s Director of Housing, Margaret Geraghty, said: “There is a need to address issues of housing affordability in the context of the challenges that exist for low-to-middle income households, particularly in Dublin and in other main urban centres.
“This is Fingal’s first Affordable Housing Scheme to move forward and we are confident that we will be in a position to progress others in the near future.”
Local councillor Tom O’Leary (FG) said: “I welcome the move by Fingal County Council to seek a partner to develop a housing scheme of 51 new homes in Lusk that will make available 39 new homes for sale at affordable prices at a discount to the current market price, maybe up to 40 percent discount?
“This is possible because the homes are to be built on council land and the Government are providing €1.5 million funding under the serviced sites fund towards the reconstruction of Kilhedge Lane. The site has good access being situated within the Dublin commuter belt as well as ready access to the M1 corridor.”
