A NORTHSIDE man has been welcomed home after an incredible fundraising effort that saw him cycle from Dublin to Delhi.
On May 1, 2018, Damien Middleton, from Swords, set off from his home with four bags and a one-man tent attached to his power pedal bike. His task was to cycle 10,063km to Delhi, India.
Intrepid Damien took on his amazing adventure to raise money for the St Michael's House Grangemore Local Centre in Donaghmede.
Damien completed his bike journey in April and raised over €10,000 for the services at Grangemore. He cycled through 17 countries including Turkey, Iran and Pakistan.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my journey and the countries I passed through were so hospitable and welcoming,” said Damien.
“The people I met along the way were so friendly, welcoming me into their homes and offering me their support for my journey.
“I would like to thank all the people who have donated money to this cause so far, I am so grateful for your support.”
Barbara Wiseman, Head of Fundraising and Communications at St Michael’s House, said Damien is an inspiration.
“His courage and commitment to his mission was incredible for all at St Michael's House. His fundraising will go a long way to purchase a wheelchair accessible bus for Grangemore Local Centre Unit.
“We are very proud and grateful to Damien, his family and his supporters.”
