CONSTRUCTION has commenced on a one-hectare site off Kilmore Road, Artane, for a new nursing home.
Bartra Capital Property Group (Bartra), the investment management company founded by Richard Barrett, will develop and operate the Beaumont Nursing Home which is scheduled to be open in June 2020.
The facility will comprise 221 single ensuite rooms, all designed to exceed relevant Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards and guidelines.
The nursing home will accommodate patients across the spectrum of residential healthcare needs, including Alzheimer’s/dementia care as well as respite, rehabilitation, convalescence and day care needs.
Bartra will partner with Beaumont Hospital to provide support to their elderly care management needs.
Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Richard Bruton officiated at the sod turning event to mark the start of the development.
“I am delighted to be turning the sod on a new nursing home for the local area,” he said.
“While it must be a priority to help older people to remain in their homes for as long as possible there will always be people who wish to avail of nursing home services.
“To make this a caring and fulfilling experience, Nursing Homes need state of the art facilities such as the one that will be built here in Beaumont. “They also need to embed a culture built around personal value, which must be carefully put together.
“Government is aware of the need for these services in our communities and the 2019 budget allocated €985 million to the Nursing Home Support Scheme that can support over 23,042 people on average at any one time.”
Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Nial Ring also welcomed the announcement.
“Beaumont Lodge Nursing Home will become an important feature for the local community in caring for its elderly,” he said.
“Through its day services Beaumont Lodge will play an important role in the prevention of loneliness and isolation for elder locals by improving quality of life, social interaction with peers and maximising independence.
“Loneliness is something we can all experience and the elderly can feel lonely and isolated sometimes.”
Bartra’s Nursing Home chief executive Brian Keane said: “The Beaumont Lodge Nursing Home will be developed, and operated, not only commensurate with existing HIQA standards, but also cognisant of emerging future demands, especially dementia and bariatric conditions.”
When completed, this will be the third nursing home site to be developed by Bartra. In June 2017, Bartra procured a 4.5-hectare site in Loughshinny, north county Dublin, to develop and operate a 123-bed nursing home.
This was followed by the acquisition of a 0.43-hectare site off the Old Ballymun Road in Northwood, Santry, on which Bartra will develop and operate a 118-bed nursing home.
The Loughshinny Nursing Home will be open by August this year while the Northwood Bartra Healthcare in Santry will open its doors in early 2020.
Bartra has also applied for planning on its fourth nursing home in Clondalkin.
and will comprise a 146-bed nursing home and 14-bed Assisted Living Units facility.
Bartra’s chief executive Michael Flannery said: “These four sites indicate Bartra’s ambition to, initially, deliver a targeted 1,000 nursing home beds, is well underway, with planning for delivery of 462 nursing home beds already secured, and another 146 applied for, totalling 608 beds.”
