FOR the past 10 years, Balrothery Summer Project, based in north county Dublin, has been running a two-week camp for local children.
The activities include day trips, fun activities at the heritage centre, a sports days at Glebe Park and community projects including activities like meeting with community gardaí and a village litter pick.
This year, the organisers were especially grateful to a number of local businesses who offered support and sponsorship.
As transport and insurance costs have increased, the organisers needed to go on a sponsorship drive to ensure they could keep the cost of participation down and the events could be inclusive with every member of the community that wanted to being able to join in.
Niall Keady of the Balrothery Summer Project Committee said: “Our aim is to create lifelong memories for the children and volunteers.
“Our summer project experiences are where everyone is treated with a level of respect that they will remember, and be given care and kindness in all interactions.
“We believe in the capabilities of our volunteers to fulfil the potential of young people to shape a better future.”
This year, the project was run over two weeks. Day trips included Courtlough Adventures, Causey Farm, Slieve Gullion and the big day out was to Clara Lara Funpark in the Wicklow Mountains.
There was also a day spent in Dublin city centre where the participants visited the National History Museum and given a tour of Government Buildings where they were met by local public representatives Senator Lorraine Clifford Lee (FF) and Darragh O’Brien TD (FF).
