Ring is elected new Lord Mayor of Dublin

THE First Citizen of Dublin title will remain with the Northside for another year. 

Last week North Inner City councillor Nial Ring (Ind) was elected new Lord Mayor of Dublin.

Cllr Ring replaces Cllr Mícheál Mac Donncha who represents the Beaumont-Donaghmede Local Electoral Area (LEA).  

Cllr Ring, a fourth generation Dubliner, was born and reared in Ballybough. He graduated from Dublin City University with an Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance, and has held a number of senior banking positions in Ireland and abroad. 

Cllr Ring is also a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, a Licentiate of the Institute of Bankers and he holds a Diploma in Financial Services Law from University College Dublin.

Cllr Ring was first elected a member of Dublin City Council in 2004 to represent the North Inner Central Electoral Area. 

He serves on a number of committees including Finance (Strategic Policy Committee), Audit, the Moore Street Advisory Committee, Parnell Square Special Committee and the Central Area Committee.

Cllr Ring is also a member of the Special Committee on Fire/Ambulance Services & Emergency Management, the Central Area Joint Policing Committee and the Commemorative Naming Committee and he is also a public representative for Dublin City Council on the Grangegorman Development Consultative Group.

At local level, he is on the board of a number of community organisations, including North East Dublin Community Services Initiative Limited, Sean O’Casey Community Centre East Wall Limited, North Wall Community Training Workshop Limited and National Handball and Croke Park Community Centre Company Limited.

He is married to Joyce and has four grown up sons. His interests include Irish History, politics and sports.
