A NEW initiative has been launched to help get the elderly out into the fresh air in their communities.
Cycling Without Age (CWA) consists of a trishaw bike which is being used to transport senior citizens around the Clontarf area.
Canada Life Reinsurance sponsored the trishaw and donated it to the three parishes of Clontarf – St Anthony’s, St Gabriel’s and St John’s. A crew of 15 volunteer cyclists from the locality will be running a schedule of free cycles for the local residents that wouldn’t normally be able to cycle or be as mobile as they used to be.
Typical cycles will take place around St Anne’s Park, along the Clontarf to Sutton cycle track and on good days down over the wooden bridge.
The bike was launched outside St Anthony’s Parish Hall. It is a totally voluntary set up and there is no fee or cost for the passengers and is targeted at those that wouldn’t ordinarily be able to cycle or possibly head for a walk.
All Clontarf parish locals who qualify for a cycle around Clontarf as a passenger can book a weekend session by calling the St Anthony’s Parish Office on 01-8333459 (9.30am to 1pm, Monday to Friday) or emailing enquiries to saintanthonysclontarf@gmail.com
People can also drop in to the St Anthony’s Parish Office and book in person. For more information visit www.cyclingwithoutage.ie.
