FINGAL County Council is to receive Government funding of €83,963 to carry out repairs to Rush harbour.
The council will receive:
• €65,625 for lifting and relaying a section of original stones on the pier surface of this protected structure including importing additional stone where necessary to develop a methodology to be deployed on the balance of the surface;
• €10,688 for the replacement of missing stones on harbour face and repointing and stabilisation of other stones; and
• €7,650 for grouting to fill voids in harbour structure.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Creed, announced a €2.2 million Capital Investment Programme for 52 Local Authority Harbour projects.
Minister Creed said the Local Authority-owned harbours in receipt of funding under this year’s programme are essential to the wellbeing of rural coastal communities.
He said they play an important social and economic role in their respective localities by contributing to the ongoing development of fishing and aquaculture related activities, increasing participation in marine leisure, and augmenting measures to attract greater numbers of tourists all of which generate an environment for job creation.
“I am delighted to announce the continuation of our programme to assist Coastal Local Authorities in the repair and development of fishery and aquaculture linked marine infrastructures under their ownership,” said Minister Creed.
Senator James Reilly (FG) said: “I am delighted that Rush Harbour will be repaired with assistance from this fund supplied by Minister Michael Creed.”
