FINGAL County Council has welcomed the decision of a Northside GAA Club to move to a new facility.
Members of O’Dwyers, based in Balbriggan, have accepted a proposal that will see the popular club move to a new facility at Bremore Regional Park.
Under the agreement, the council will enter into a long-term lease with O’Dwyers for a 10-acre site on the northern boundary of the park.
There, the club will develop a new clubhouse, sports pitch, parking and training areas which will be in alignment with and complementary to the council’s overall vision for the park.
The council has also agreed to purchase O’Dwyer’s’ current facility at Hamlet Lane which it will be used for road improvements in the area as well as providing new housing.
Director of Planning and Strategic Infrastructure at the council, AnnMarie Farrelly, said: “We are delighted that the members of O’Dwyer’s GAA Club have agreed to the proposal and we look forward to signing contracts and proceeding with the project in the coming months.
“This agreement gives O’Dwyer’s the opportunity to develop a state-of-the-art sports facility that will cater for their growing membership and will be another excellent facility attached to Bremore Regional Park.”
Bremore Regional Park is a 100-acre facility in north Balbriggan along the R132 which is being developed by the council to support and service the outdoor recreational needs of the town’s young and rapidly growing population.
It will feature a major community and tourism hub focused around the restored medieval Bremore Castle and associated visitor services.
A range of sporting facilities will be provided including the already completed 3G All-weather sports pitch as well as at least six additional public grass pitches, three which will be designed for GAA purposes.
