Martial artists kick on to record latest achievements

2nd Dan Black Belts: Graham James, Louise Kissane, Paul Faherty, Lee O'Donnell, Paul Noone, Roger Raso, Damien Lynch, Hazel Coyle-McConalogue and Chris Shields.

THIRTEEN Blackbelts of the Irish Mugendo Kickboxing Association (IMKA) were celebrating recently after recording big achievements in their sport.

Nine Sensei members passed their 2nd Dan grading in December, and three passed their 3rd Dan. On the same day, Chief Instructor Liam McConalogue was awarded his 5th Dan.

Mugendo means Unlimited Way and is a modern fighting system which combines the art of boxing with powerful kicking techniques.

A Mugendo kickboxing workout benefits the entire body and mind by increasing, flexibility, strength, stamina, speed and co-ordination as well as general health and wellbeing.

Established in 1983 by Larry Kidd, 7th Dan black belt, in Chanel College, Coolock Village, (as Chanel Karate Club), IMKA is recognised by its students as being a friendly and family orientated club.

Training is not based solely on a grading system, but based on the individual, his/her skill and what they wish to achieve.

In the association there are junior and senior national and international champions. Training includes physical fitness, stretching, self-defence (with an emphasis on anti-bullying), kickboxing, kata and breaking techniques.

IMKA continues to grow strong and will celebrate 35 years in existence in 2018. The door is always open to beginners. For information on classes, you can contact them on their Facebook page: Irish Mugendo Kickboxing Association.
