IRISH Water is working in partnership with Fingal County Council to deliver the Howth Water Supply Scheme.
The company has published a notice to confirm a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to acquire the necessary lands in Howth, Baldoyle, Burrow, Deerpark and Howth Demesne to progress the project.
The CPO relates to land purchase, permanent wayleaves and temporary construction rights to replacement 6km trunk water mains in Howth.
The CPO enables Irish Water to construct, lay, keep, operate, maintain, renew, repair and inspect the proposed infrastructure required as part of this project. The project will go to tender in Quarter 1 2018 and works are due to commence in Q4 2018.
The project will improve the water supply service to householders and businesses in Howth and surrounding areas.
Due to the age, size and condition of the current water infrastructure, customers in certain areas experience water pressure below acceptable levels of service.
Irish Water said the benefits of this project include:
• Improved security of water supply,
• Increased water pressure to homes and businesses, and
• Fewer unplanned water interruptions
William McKnight, Irish Water Regional Lead, said the project will improve the security of the water supply for the people of Howth.
“Once complete the new trunk water mains will provide a more reliable service for customers,” said Mr McKnight.
“The project forms part of Irish Water’s investment in upgrading Ireland’s water infrastructure.”
