Dublin Bay North TD Finian McGrath (Ind) welcomed the decision.

“In the interests of all the 48 families who lost loved ones in the Stardust Tragedy, I am delighted that the Stardust Relatives and Victims’ Committee have presented their submission to Judge Pat McCartan,” said Deputy McGrath.

“Many victims’ families contacted my office in recent days expressing their desire for the submission to be handed over to the judge and we had a very constructive meeting last week.

“I want to commend the hard work of the SRVC over many years and all the families involved in this tragedy.

“It’s important that Judge McCartan is now given the space to do his job and I will continue to support the Stardust families.”

Earlier this year the Government approved a proposal to appoint Judge McCartan to assess any new and updated evidence the Stardust Relatives and Victims’ Committee have uncovered in order to recommend whether a Commission of Investigation should be established into the Stardust Tragedy.
