A NORTHSIDE man received a Sunflower Hero award from RTE’s Mary Kennedy for his outstanding dedication to St Francis Hospice.
Tommy Gibson, from Raheny, has been associated with St Francis Hospice for almost 20 years and was among 23 volunteers across the country honoured for their contribution to hospice care.
The presentation took place at the Mansion House at the national launch of Hospice Sunflower Days.
This is an annual fundraiser for the hospice movement in Ireland taking place on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10. It is hoped €1 million will be raised.
St Francis Hospice said it nominated Tommy for his fundraising efforts during the annual Sunflower Collection and for his role as a Centre Co-ordinator.
“Tommy is a genuine, hard-working, and willing player during the annual Sunflower Collection,” said a spokesperson for St Francis Hospice. “He projects a very warm and cheerful attitude and is a highly organised and respected Centre Co-ordinator.
“Tommy ensures his team meet prior to the Sunflower Collection in order to encourage their success in achieving maximum fundraising proceeds for our Hospices. He is one of our great ambassadors and has become a local hero because of all his charitable work and community involvement.”
