A large-scale search took place overnight after reports of a person in trouble in the sea off Sutton.

A member of the public reported witnessing a person in difficulty in the water near Sutton Dingy Club at 11pm last night. He contacted the Coast Guard emergency operations centre, who tasked the Coast Guard helicopter, a Coast Guard search team from Howth, the RNLI inshore lifeboats from Howth and Dun Laoghaire, along with local gardaí.

A detailed search with over 40 personnel was carried out with resources focused on an area between Dollymount Beach and Sutton.

Search teams returned for a low water search this morning at 3.30am. Coast Guard personnel searched the shallow waters in the area the person was last seen.

The team was stood down at 5.30am with nothing further to report. Gardaí are continuing to investigate.
