A RAHENY woman has received a 50-year service award from Irish Girl Guides (IGG).
Pamela Galloway, a Guide Leader with Raheny Brownies, received her 50-year service pin at the organisation’s annual council meeting.
Ms Galloway started out as a leader with the 2nd Dublin Pack at St James and went on to run Brownies in Raheny for over 48 years and still does so today. She served as District Commissioner for many years and was also a member of National Office staff, serving as bookkeeper for 25 years.
IGG President Maureen Dillon said: “It is with an enormous sense of gratitude that Irish Girl Guides acknowledges the extraordinary service given by Pamela Galloway over the last 50 years. Pamela is one of the extraordinary women volunteers who has given exemplary service to our organisation over this time – as a member, a leader, an informal educator and a trainer of other adult leaders.”
Ms Galloway said she is thoroughly enjoying every moment of being a leader.
“I love working with the children and seeing them grow in confidence,” she said. “I have so many wonderful memories but my over-riding memory is meeting Lady-Baden Powell (founder of Guiding) in 1959, at a supper for Guide and Scout leaders in Dublin Zoo. She was a fabulous person.”
