STUDENTS of Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education (CDCFE), in Coolock, have been fundraising for various local charities.
Cheques totalling €600 were recently presented to both the Simon Community and Peter McVerry Trust.
A craft fair was held at the college’s Raheny campus where students from the Community Development, General Education and Fashion Design courses sold their goods in order to raise funds for the chosen charities. The Café & Deli Service Skills course held a bake sale which raised €200.
Earlier in the year, students from the Architectural Design & Technology course, assisted in renovating a container into a ‘Sleep Pod’ for the homeless.
This container was donated to the Clúid Housing initiative, and is currently occupied in Ballina, County Mayo. Computer Science students assisted members of the Priorswood and District Men’s Shed as part of their work experience module.
Twenty Men’s Shed members visited the Coláiste Dhúlaigh Coolock campus and students cooperated with them on everything from smartphones and tablets to internet browsing and safety.
Principal of Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education, Mary Hickie, said: “I am extremely proud of the standard of work which was for sale at the craft fair. I am also delighted to acknowledge the willingness of our students and tutors to give so generously of their time and effort in the name of such worthy causes.”
