Students have designs on top fashion award

SHELLING OUT: The Loreto students also caught the eye with the dress made out of shells.

TWO student groups from Loreto College, Swords, have been announced as Regional Finalists for Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture 2017.

Now in its seventh year, the all-Ireland leading fashion and art competition for secondary schools challenges students to create unique, original and innovative outfits from recycled materials and junk.

Open to students nationwide, entries for 2017 surpassed all expectations making it the biggest competition to date. Eighty designs from each of the four provinces were lucky enough to be Silver Ticket winners.

As part of the judging process, the public can get involved by casting a vote for their favourite design through the Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture voting app. Accessed through the BOIStudents Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BOIstudents), voting opens for one week before the regional competitions. Individuals can cast a single vote every 24 hours. Votes account for 10 per cent of the final mark and can make a huge difference in such a heated competition.

Loreto College in Swords entered four dresses into the competition and two were successful – ‘Turning Pages’ – made by Emma O’Neill, Ciara O’Reilly and Amy Kelly, and ‘Shore Thing’ – made by Laura Murray, Rebecca Gibson O’Dwyer and Alyson McGrath.

The Northside girls now go forward to the Eastern Regional Final which will be held at The Helix on March 2.

Loreto College in Swords would like to congratulate all of their students on getting through to the regional finals and especially thank teacher Niamh Lacey for all her hard work.
