THE Shelbourne Ladies’ team has been on fire recently and they currently top the FAI Women’s National League following some key victories in recent weeks. This Sunday, November 6, they will compete in their second consecutive cup final against Wexford Youths, having lost to the same opposition last year after extra time and penalties.
The Shelbourne squad includes six players who last week represented Ireland Under 19s in an international tournament that saw them qualify for the European Championships.
Ireland topped their group which included Italy, Wales and Macedonia without conceding a single goal.
In the 10-0 win over Macedonia, Shels’ 17-year-old striker, Leanne Kiernan, scored four, while midfielder Alex Kavanagh netted twice. Leanne scored two more in the 2-0 defeat of Wales.
Meanwhile, Shelbourne goalkeeper, Amanda McQuillan, will be very pleased to have kept three clean sheets.
Sunday’s cup final takes place at the Aviva Stadium with a 12.05pm kick-off. The match will be followed by the Men’s Cup Final between Cork City and Dundalk. Tickets are priced at just €10 for adults and €5 for children which is fantastic value to see the country’s top women’s and men’s teams compete in the Aviva Stadium.
