RAHENY Community First Responders will launch its third public access defibrillator this Saturday, June 18 at the Red Stables in St Anne’s Park.

The group’s second defibrillator was unveiled last month at the Bank of Ireland Raheny.

Joe Mooney, Chairperson/Coordinator of Raheny Community First Responder Group, said: “Since going live with the National Ambulance service we have been dispatched to over 40 calls and now with this second public access AED it is another step in making our community safer for the people who live and work in Raheny.

“This public AED wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the public and Raheny Business Association (RBA) at our Race Night fundraiser.

“Also, Bank of Ireland have to be thanked for the massive amount of support for the group in allowing us to place the AED on the wall of the branch.

“We have also been sponsored an AED by Dublin City Council and this will be placed in St Anne’s Park at the Red Stables on June 18 at 1pm so we are looking forward to that day.”

Raheny Community First Responders provides cardiac care and other emergency medical assistance to people in Raheny and surrounding areas while they are waiting on an ambulance.

The group comprises local volunteers, trained in CPR and defibrillation.

Every time the National Ambulance Service (NAS) receives a call for the Raheny area, the First Responders will be notified while the ambulance is being dispatched.

If the responder arrives first, they will assist the patient while waiting for the ambulance crew.

The First Responders will respond to five medical conditions – cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, choking and drowning.
