IT’S been 25 years since Northsider Steven Mangan first appeared on stage singing in a local talent competition.
By his own admission he didn’t do so well. However, he came away with a determination to do better next time.
When he returned to Naomh Fionnbarra GAA Club, Cabra, a couple of years later he won the contest outright. That was the start of what has turned out to be a very promising career in the showbiz world.
The Coolock man is now swapping the big stage for the small screen as he takes up the role of Carrigstown’s newest resident, Len Crowley, in Fair City.
A restaurant and bar owner, Len is set to make life a little difficult for long time Fair City local Mondo O’Connell, played by George McMahon.
Steven says acting has always been something that has interested him.
“I’ve always wanted to try my hand at it but never had the nerve,” he tells Northside People.
“The ‘Michael Buble Show’ I’ve been doing the last two years has given me the confidence boost I needed to get in front of the camera and I’m enjoying every minute of it.”
In Fair City, Mondo has been desperately trying to impress Hayley Collins, who he shares an office with, and when Len (Steven Mangan) arrives early for a meeting with her, he sees his chance and suddenly takes the meeting, hoping to show his worth, But will all go to plan? Who knows, it is Mondo after all.
“You’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more of Len Crowley over the next couple of months,” says Steven.
“I can’t wait to see what happens with the character myself but I know Mondo is playing a risky game messing with the feisty Hayley. She even scares me lol.
“It will be back to Buble for me when filming finishes up and I’m traveling to Las Vegas in May where I’ll be performing the show on May 7 and 8 in the MGM Grand.”
Steven will also be doing a “massive” show this summer at Parnell’s GAA Club in Coolock Village with a seven-piece live band.
I can’t wait for this one,” he adds.
