THE draw for the Aviva FAI Junior Cup quarter final has thrown up some big games including a North Dublin derby between great rivals Kilbarrack United and Sheriff YC.
Sheriff YC defeated Kilbarrack in back-to-back finals in 2012 and 2013. While Sheriff haven’t won the trophy since, they were semi finalists in 2014 and finalists last year, losing in extra time to Liffey Wanderers in front of 5,000 at the Aviva Stadium.
Rivervalley Rangers, from Swords, will host St Peter’s from Athlone in their last eight tie.
Rivervalley have been under the radar in the competition but their 3-1 win over a strong Carew Park in the last 16 has signalled their intent for this competition. St Peter’s were finalists in 2009, losing to Ballymun United, and having disposed of Westport United and Cork side Pearse Celtic on the way to the quarter finals, they will be confident of making the last four.
There is also a Munster derby with Newmarket Celtic, from Clare taking on Limerick’s Janesboro FC, while the other Limerick side in the draw, Pike Rovers, will host Glengad United from Inishowen in Donegal.
The ties will be played over the weekends of March 12/13 and March 19/20.
