A NORTHSIDE group is calling on locals to help them raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society in memory of their late friend.
In February 2013, Jack Dalton passed away, aged just 19, after a battle with Ewings Sarcoma.
His friends set up Portmarnock Fights Cancer and held a series of fundraisers in their local community.
This month the group will be holding more events including The Dalton Cup 6-A-Side Tournament at the Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Centre (PSLC) on February 21; a Basketballathon on February 27 at the PSLC from 10am to 6pm; and a table quiz from 8pm till late.
Group member Orlagh Geoghegan, said: “Last year we were stunned at the amount of encouragement and support we received from the entire community of Portmarnock and beyond, from individuals as well as generous sponsorships from local businesses.
“After three active years of fundraising, our dream would be to raise €20,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.
“To date we have raised €13,000 and would once again like to thank all those who have supported us and contributed in any way to our efforts.”
