Drop down to the IFI in Temple Bar for a five-day celebration of the best in documentary films from around the world, including 15 features, a shorts programme, a panel discussion, special guests and many films receiving their premiere screenings in Ireland. 

This year’s festival includes the world première of Marcus Robinson’s An Engineer Imagines and seven Irish premières including the festival’s opening film Minding the Gap, winner of the 2018 Sheffield Doc Fest New Talent and Audience awards.

Terenure International Food Festival

Taking place in Bushy Park, Terenure, the first Terenure International Food Festival will run from 10am-5pm on Saturday, September 29.

Enjoy 40 international food stalls showcasing their finest cuisine from all corners of the world. There will also be international music and dance entertainment all day. 

The Boys

Michael Harnett’s play, ‘The Boys’, opens at the Viking Theatre, Clontarf, on September 24 where it will run for three weeks.  

The play, set in Drumcondra in the ‘60s, deals with boys growing up, their own struggles with sexuality and maturity, their worries about the future and the most important subject in their lives, girls. 

Featuring four talented actors – including Killian Coyle who recently joined the cast of Fair City – a total of 24 characters are recreated through the swift actions of the actors who change wigs and costumes in the blink of an eye.

Quiz night in Whitehall 

Would you like to take part in a quiz night for a very good cause?

An annual fundraising quiz, in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society North Dublin Branch, will take place at Whitehall Colmcille GAA Club, Collins Avenue, on Thursday, October 4 at 8pm. 

A table of four costs €40. Super prizes and a great raffle are promised. 

Swords Intercultural Festival

The Swords Intercultural Festival is a multicultural music festival aimed at encouraging integration within the community.

It takes place this Saturday, September 29 from 1pm to 6pm at St Colmcille’s GAA Club, Holybanks, Swords. Entry is free but space is limited.

Local bands and groups of different nationalities and styles of music will feature.

Alternative Sunday Social Club

The Alternative Sunday Social Club at Toners presents Strand on Sunday, September 30 at 4pm. Expect a smattering of English pub rock of the 1970s, west coast psyche of the late 1960s, crash-bang Americana of the 1990s and post-youthful punk energy among the rock n’ roll wreckage in this treasure strewn junkyard

Beano – The Exhibition

Following the success of Cassette Vs Vinyl, David Douglas of Ebow, the art gallery located on 1 Castle Street, Dublin 8, is hosting an exhibition on the iconic comic Beano, until October. Celebrating the 80th anniversary of Beano the artwork is featured in a month-long Pop Art Exhibition. Prints will be available to purchase for the duration of the exhibition.  The collection has already achieved great success in the UK with a revered public exhibition at Beano Studios in London.

Aslan

Sandyford House, in Sandyford Village is hosting Dub legends Aslan on Sunday, September 30. This year Aslan have been marking 30 years since they released their first album ‘Feel No Shame’, which they have been celebrating with a series of gigs around the country. They return to Dublin next week and you can catch them live at the marquee at Sandyford House, in Sandyford Village. Tickets are €22.50 plus booking fee and are available online from www.ticketmaster.ie.

St Mochta’s Family Funday

Great fun for everyone is promised at the St Mochta’s Family Funday on Saturday, September 29, from 12 noon, in the wonderful surroundings of Luttrellstown Castle. Tickets cost €10 per family/car and this covers entry, raffle and live entertainment all day. Events include a market place, pony rides, archery, games, Punch and Judy Show, a football tournament a vintage & classic car show competition and lots more.
