Mel Brooks’s comedy masterpiece, The Producers – widely regarded as one of the funniest films ever – has been stunningly restored and is back on the big screen to celebrate its 50th anniversary!

BGICON
Board Games Ireland is hosting its second convention dedicated to just tabletop and board gaming on Saturday, August 4 from 11am until late.
It takes place in the The Teachers’ Club on 36 Parnell Square where the large hall room will have plenty of large tables ideal for gaming. There’s also a full bar on premises and food is also available.
There will be a large selection of games there on the day, but you can bring along your own games too. Tickets cost €12 and are available from www.eventbrite.com.
Proven Answers exhibition
Temple Bar Gallery + Studios (5-9 Temple Bar) is hosting a new solo exhibition by Irish artist Stephen Loughman.
Incorporating painting, sculpture and video, ‘Proven Answers’ takes its title from the opening lines to the 1969 film version of Ray Bradbury’s short story, ‘The Illustrated Man’, and uses narrative strands from this film as its basis.
‘Proven Answers’ is a continuation of Loughman’s career-long approach to appropriation of film imagery in his paintings.
The exhibition will run until Saturday, September 15 and admission is free.
Outside the Urban
‘Outside the Urban’, an exhibition of paintings by Michelle Boyle, is open at the axis, Main Street, Ballymun.
The exhibition reflects the artist’s own sense of person and place which are a constant theme of her artistic output. It runs throughout August, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm.

Playboy of the Western World
Directed by Kate Canning, Sunflower Productions presents another classic after last year's successful run of Oscar Wilde's ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’.
A small community in County Mayo is thrown into turbulence with the arrival of Christy Mahon, a mysterious stranger claiming to have killed his father. The local men aren’t sure if he’s a danger and the local women find him fascinating. Michael James Flaherty the local publican takes a shine to him, and his daughter Pegeen Mike finds his company preferable to that of her dull fiancée, Shawn Keogh. However, it transpires that Christy’s father is not dead afterall, when Old Mahon arrives with a gaping head wound, searching for his ungrateful son.
This production will be in the round, seating is unallocated and booking is advised.

We’ve Only Just Begun
This August, welcomes the debut of ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’, three nights in Whelan’s showcasing incredible talent in the heart of the city centre.
On Friday, August 10 the new festival features Cathy Davey, Wyvern Lingo (DJ Set), Ships and Molly Sterling; Saturday, August 11 has Bitch Falcon, Vernon Jane and Girlfriend; and Sunday, August 12 boasts Sorcha Richardson, ROE and Aislinn Logan.

Esker Festival Orchestra
The Esker Festival Orchestra, Ireland’s most exciting and established peer led orchestra, will return this August for its fifth annual residential and summer tour.
This year’s tour will see performances will include St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street, Dublin 2 on Sunday, August 12 at 5pm.
The musicians will be directed and conducted by Peter Joyce (University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna). The Esker Festival Orchestra brings together Irish and international emerging young professional musicians of the highest calibre.
Parkruns at local venues
All walkers and runners are welcome to take part in parkruns every Saturday at 9.30am at a number of local venues including St Anne’s Park, Fairview Park, Poppintree Park, Darndale Park, Father Collins Park, Newbridge Demesne, Tolka Valley Park, and Ardgillan Demesne.
Parkrun is a timed 5k walk/run and is a completely free to participate community-based, volunteer-led initiative, and a great way to meet people and keep fit.
