Banned Books
Until 1967, international as well as home-grown authors had to contend with Ireland's restrictive book censorship policies.
In 1967, the Censorship of Publications Act officially put an end to book banning forever after changing the direction of history and intellectualism in this country.
See what book banning – and its abolition – meant for an emerging nation at Banned Books – Censorship in Ireland, 1929-1967, a fascinating exhibition running until July 29 at dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire that looks at what is gained – and lost – when a national ideology is taken too far.
