MUSIC: Dad and daughter duo are Live at Leopardstown

Saoirse is already making her own mark on the Irish music scene.

A WINNER of two consecutive Meteor Music Awards for Best Irish Male, Paddy Casey returns to play Bulmers Live At Leopardstown on Thursday, June 14, along with his daughter and stunning vocalist, Saoirse.

Following in her father's footsteps, Saoirse is already making her own mark on the Irish music scene. As well as singing with Paddy, she has also performed recently with Declan O Rourke, joining him and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The talented dad and daughter duo will be taking to the stage at the popular racecourse where the Waterboys (August 16), Paul Young (July 19) join Hudson Taylor (June 21), Keywest (July 26) and Smokie (August 9) for one of Dublin’s fastest growing and most exciting nights out.

From busking on the streets of Dublin in their early days, to sold out shows in Ireland, the UK and Europe, Hudson Taylor have been one of this country’s great success stories in recent years and they are welcomed back to Bulmers Live at Leopardstown for a show on Thursday, June 21.

Brothers Alfie and Harry began 2018 with a brand-new track, ‘Run With Me’, following lengthy touring of their debut album, ‘Singing for Strangers’. They released a 5-track EP at the end of March on Rubyworks, ‘Feel It Again’, ahead of their Leopardstown show this summer.

Keywest are also no strangers to Dublin’s streets and venues, having built up a huge following in recent years with a brilliant live show and the Number One album, ‘Joyland’.

Smokie, meanwhile, have racked up platinum albums across Europe in a career that has spanned over four decades. Probably best known in this country for their gigantic hit single ‘Living Next Door to Alice’, Smokie have played in stadiums around the world, from a staggering 500,000 people in Kiev’s main square to places as far flung as Ulan Bator, Mongolia, where they sold out two nights in the capital’s 40,000 capacity stadium.

The Thursday evening performances will be preceded by a top-class card of horse racing and a wide selection of hospitality options are available. The ‘Summer Bundle’ at only €33 includes admission to the racing and concert, a welcome drink, a €10 food voucher and a €5 tote bet. À la carte style dining is available in the 1888 restaurant at €75 per person.

For group bookings, the Summer Party is ideal where you have a table reserved for the evening overlooking the racetrack and a three-course meal for only €70 per person.

Leopardstown Racecourse is only 20 minutes from Dublin City Centre on the Luas Green line, with dedicated free shuttle buses running from the Sandyford stop to the venue. Leopardstown is located off exit 14 or exit 15 on the M50 southbound or exit 15, M50 Northbound. Complimentary parking is available on a first come first served basis.

TRACK RECORD WITH SAOIRSE CASEY

1. Most memorable moment in Dublin?

The peaceful DART journeys to and from school along the coast.

2. Favourite place to visit in Dublin?

My favourite place to visit is the Botanical Gardens. I like to read all the names of the plants and imagine which plant various people I know would be.

3. When not playing music, what else do you do?

These days, I am feeding the cows, dandelions and reading Earthsea…

4. First album you bought and last album you bought?

I don't remember which one I bought but one of the first I can remember is KT Tunstell's ‘Eye to the Telescope’, and the most recent was Joni Mitchell's ‘Blue’, a gift.

5. Who are your influences?

As I grew up, my constants were Bjork, The Cure, Joanna Newsom… I think watching ‘Watership Down’ 100 times as a kid and reading ‘Murakami’ may have influenced the melancholic side of my music.

6. With you fronting, who would make up your ideal band (dead or alive)?

My ideal band… a choir of whales, and someone to play the vibraphone, Masayoshi Fujita.

7. Any tips on life?

Ask your heart anything you are unsure of. It's easier with closed eyes.

8. If you were to name a horse for a race, what would it be and why?

Artax, like from ‘The Neverending Story’.
