Taste of Dublin

Taste of Dublin returns to the stunning Iveagh Gardens from June 14-17. Over four indulgent days the city’s latest, greatest and hottest restaurants will fashion together exquisite signature dishes, allowing visitors to create their dream tasting menu at the ultimate foodie festival. The Maeve Binchy Walk

The ‘Maeve Binchy and famous Irish Writers Walk’ has returned to Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre and will take place on Fridays at 1.15pm until the end of September. Artane Senior Band

There’s a great night of music at the Artane School of Music, St David’s Park, at 8pm on June 16 when the Artane Senior Band will be celebrating their 30th anniversary. 

Tickets are €15 each and are available from reception in the Artane School of Music. It’s an over-18s event and you can bring your own food and drink for this fundraiser for the Artane School of Music.

This City Life

Dublin based visual artists Pat Curran and Mark Holburn have opened their joint exhibition ‘City Life’ in Ballyfermot Library.

Pat’s paintings and Mark’s installed arts works map represent their responses to their rich cultural experiences and observations of Dublin’s contemporary life. 

They both graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2014 and 2015 respectively. ‘City Life’ is open in Ballyfermot Library until June 30.

Table quiz in Coolock

The St Brigid’s Girls’ National School Parents’ Association is holding its end of year table quiz and social event at Parnell’s GAA Club, Coolock, on Thursday, June 21 at 8pm. All monies raised will go towards the school library and school gardens. 

Tables of four are €40. There will be a raffle on the night and lots of spot prizes. All support appreciated.

Irish shop fronts’ exhibition 

Hen’s Teeth x Our Type have announced a new exhibition – ‘Irish Shopfronts’, by photographer and graphic designer, Trevor Finnegan, which will take place from June 14-21 at 13 Fade Street, Dublin 2.  

The culmination of seven years’ work, in every county across Ireland, Trevor’s collection showcases the unique design, charm and heritage of the traditional Irish main street.

Road to Home exhibition 

Gormleys Fine Art have announced details of ‘Road to Home’, a solo exhibition of new works by Eugene Conway, coming to its Dublin gallery.

The exhibition opened on June 9 and will run until June 25 at 27 South Frederick Street, Dublin 2. 

The exhibition consists of a number of oil paintings on linen, depicting a series of scenes of the Irish landscape.

Bloomsday festival

There’s lots happening around the city this week to celebrate Bloomsday. Celebrations often include dressing up like characters from the book and in clothes that would have been the style of the era. The festival has spread out around the city but the James Joyce Centre will be a main hive of activity. There’s also events in Glasnevin Cemetery and Howth Castle.

Friday night soccer

Get your football fix with live league action around the city. St Pat’s are at home against Sligo Rovers in Inchicore while Bray take on Waterford in the seaside town on Friday, June 15. Kick offs are at 7.45pm. At the same time in the First Division there’s a Dublin derby between Shels and Cabinteely at Tolka Park.
