Skerries Rás festival finale

Skerries will be heaving with activity this Sunday, May 27 to mark the final stage of the 2018 Rás, Ireland’s most famous cycle race. 

There will be musical and street entertainers, games, face-painting, crafts and cake stalls organised by dozens of schools and community groups. There will also be Farmer’s Market stalls with homemade goodies and crafts.

And of course, there will be the conclusion to the race, comprising top cyclists from at home and abroad, which is held over eight days of a gruelling schedule.

 

Windmill Run in Garristown

The Windmill Run will take place on Sunday, May 27 at 9.30am in Garristown, north County Dublin.

It is an attractive and challenging hilly 5k/10k road run with plenty of views to enjoy, including the historic landmark Windmill.

The 5k/10k run will be chipped for all entrants. It costs €20 to register online or €20 on the day; Under 16s, €15. Lower age limits as follows: 5k- 10yrs: 10k-16yrs. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in male, female and under 16 categories and medals for all finishers.

Summer Fete in Howth

A Summer Fete will take place in the grounds of St Mary's Church, Howth, on Saturday, May 26. Gates will open at 12noon.  

There will be cakes, family fun, fashion boutique, bumper raffle prizes, toys, books, bric a brac, strawberries, Prosecco and more. This is an annual fundraiser for the parish and all are welcome.

Friday night soccer

With the English soccer season over fans of the beautiful game can get their fix from League of Ireland matches. This Friday night (May 25), the best of the Dublin derbies takes place at Dalymount Park where Shamrock Rovers will be out for revenge against Bohs who’ve already beaten them twice this season. This is an all-ticket game and fans are advised to show up early for this mouth-watering clash. South of the Liffey, St Pat’s are taking on champs Cork City in Inchicore. Both games have 7.45pm kick-offs. First division action takes place at the same time and date in Stradbrook where Cabinteely take on UCD.

Pet Meetup

Pet Sitters Ireland is hosting a free meet up at Corkagh Park Dog Park in Clondalkin at 11am on Saturday, May 26 for Pet Lovers in the local and surrounding area.

This is a fun event and a chance to meet other dog and cat owners in the area, ask questions about your pets and seek advice on new pet ownership.

There will be experts to chat about puppy socialisation as well as free goodies on the day.

To find the Dog Park come in the Camac Valley car park (N7 side of park) and follow the path into the park. The Dog Park is 500 metres on your right-hand side.

Visitors are asked to register at facebook.com/PetSittersIreland so organisers can have an idea of numbers.

Battle for the Bay

The annual Battle for the Bay Kitesurfing and SUPing Competition is back at Dollymount Beach this weekend (May 26-27). The concept of the Battle is very simple; fun, wind, water…and more fun!!!

The best riders in the country and from around the globe will compete in what is now one of the best kitesurfing spots in the world.

Jerry Fish

Jerry Fish will be performing an intimate piano show, featuring his favourite songs, old and new from a career spanning over two decades as well as excerpts from his sell-out fringe theatre show on Thursday, May 24 at 8pm in the dlr Mill Theatre, Dundrum Town Centre.

Jerry Fish blasted onto the music scene in the 1990’s and toured the globe as front-man of alternative rock outfit An Emotional Fish, the band that gave us the indie rock anthem ‘Celebrate’.

These days the name Jerry Fish is synonymous with festivals, carnival sideshow, circus and theatre. 

Mr Fish’s genre bending and idiosyncratic style of entertainment has made him a household name within the Irish music industry. Tickets are €20 on the dlr Mill Theatre website.

Big Bingo Night

A free Bingo Night for local older people organised by ServiceSource and Age Action is taking place in ServiceSource’s Head Office at The Chase, Carmanhall Road, Sandyford Industrial Estate, on Tuesday May 22 from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Local businesses are providing spot prizes and there will be plenty of refreshments for the dozens of bingo fans expected to pack out ServiceSource’s Sandyford office where company staff will be dedicated to ensuring everyone has a great evening.

Good Friday Agreement exhibition

A visual art exhibition marking the 20th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement is now running at the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane. The exhibition entitled ‘Keeper’ by artist Amanda Dunsmore is a social history artwork and archive of lived experiences in Northern Ireland created through film, video, objects, audio recordings and photography.

The exhibition presents silent, 20-minute video portraits of key political figures involved in the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement. Full details are available on www.hughlane.ie/education
