DANCE masters Le Galaxie will bring their boundless energy and creative flair to Whelan’s on October 13 as they perform their own interpretation of the ‘Apocalypse Now’ soundtrack as part of the Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series.

This special series of gigs will see Le Galaxie and BARQ, two of Ireland’s best live music acts, showcase their contemporary take on two of the most memorable soundtracks of all time.

As well as the Vietnam War epic, they will also perform music from the cult hitPulp Fiction.

Many months in the making, Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series will see both bands performing their original interpretations in some of Ireland’s favourite music venues across Dublin, Cork, Belfast, Limerick and Sligo.

The music behind a movie can be the difference between a great film and a cult classic, with the soundtracks living on long after the credits have rolled.

And without doubt, the soundtrack from ‘Apocalypse Now’ continues to echo long after the movie’s famous opening sequence just as Pulp Fiction’s mixtape lives beyond that iconic dance scene.

To celebrate the soundtracks that undoubtedly stand on their own, Smithwick’s has collaborated with BARQ and Le Galaxie to curate a unique line-up of performances to reinterprete their classic arrangements.

Both bands have taken on these iconic playlists to deliver an exciting live music experience for film and music lovers alike – complete with a pint of Smithwick’s for good measure.

Dubbed as one of the most exciting bands to emerge on the Irish music scene in recent years, BARQ have taken their time in reinventing and introducing their signature ‘agro-soul’ sound to one of the world’s coolest mixtapes, Pulp Fiction.

Le Galaxie’s frontman Michael Pope, (pictured above with Jess Kav of BARQ) said: “We are always looking at new ways to reinvent ourselves and create something unique for our fans.

“Working with Smithwick’s on the Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series has been incredibly exciting.

“We see it as an opportunity to push creative boundaries and produce an original piece of work, which not only reflects our love for movies, but also champions the music behind them that has gained cult status in its own right.”

Likewise, Jess Kav of BARQ, added: “We are so excited about being involved in Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series.

“There are so many iconic movie soundtracks to choose from, but we felt the mixture of surf, soul and rock from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack was a great fit for BARQ and complements our sound nicely.”

Paul Dunkin from the Smithwick’s team said they  were big fans of Le Galaxie and BARQ.

“We love their style, approach and attitude to their craft,” he said.

“Smithwick's Soundtrack Series is all about celebrating passion and creativity which will shine through in each of the performances around the country.”

The Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series of gigs will be supported and opened by music journalist and DJ, Nialler9 or DJ Sally Cinnamon.

Not only is Nialler9 regarded as one of Ireland’s most influential music writers, he is also involved in curating music for film, TV and digital entertainment.

As part of the series, Nialler9 has produced a bespoke playlist featuring notable movie soundtracks which he and Sally will roll out across the series.

Tickets to Smithwick’s Soundtrack Series are priced at €15 which includes booking fee and a free pint of Smithwick’s.

 Tickets are available from www.smithwicks.eventbrite.ie.
