Inspirefest Family Fringe
Inspirefest is an international festival of technology, science, design and the arts, covering key trends from Infosec to Blockchain, AI to Robotics and Games to Professional Development.
The main conference runs July 6 & 7 in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin’s Silicon Docks but there’s a Family Fringe at Accenture’s ‘The Dock’ Hanover Quay between 11am & 4pm on July 8.
Fringe brings together the leading Irish STEAM community groups: CoderDojo, Girls Hack Ireland, GameCraft, Soft Robotics Toolkit, TOG, Coding Grace, Arckit, TCD Walton Club and Dublin Maker, who will be offering a whole range of activities for kids and adults alike to take part in.
This is a free event designed for families, with laptops and equipment provided on the day by Inspirefest. No experience in coding or technology required. There will be space for drop-ins on the day, but the organisers recommend that families register in advance at eventbrite.ie.
City Spectacular
Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular will return to Dublin’s Merrion Square from July 7–9.
Entry to this family friendly festival is entirely free of charge. The festival runs over three days showcasing the best in international street performance, interactive family activities, delicious artisan producers and street food from around the world as well as a pet wellness area with DSPCA.
Flower show
Dublin Five Horticultural Society is holding its annual flower show on Sunday, July 9 in Chanel College, Coolock Village.
The ‘Heaven Scent’ show will take place from 2pm to 5pm and admission is only €2. There will be roses, sweet pea and much more. All are welcome. For enquiries about entries or to get directions, phone 087-2423020.
Malahide Family fun day
Avoca in Malahide is holding a Family Fun Day this Friday, July 7, from 12noon to 5pm.
There will be a number of fun and free activities for all kids and families to enjoy.
Fun music, free Ice Cream for two hours (1pm-3pm), face painter and balloon artist, retail promotions, Kathleen reader event and book promotions, art and crafts corner and more great summer promotions on the day.
Totems
As part of the hugely anticipated programme of events to mark the re-opening of the Dargan and Milltown wings of the National Gallery this summer, the acclaimed Liz Roche Company presents the world premiere of Totems in the exquisite surrounds of the Shaw Room and The Grand Gallery.
Six dancers will come together with live musicians to respond anew to these historic gallery spaces with five intimate performances taking place from Thursday July 6 to Sunday July 9. Tickets cost €15 and are available from www.nationalgallery.ie.
Spirit of Dublin Summer Craft Fair
A host of Ireland’s most exciting artisan producers will once again return to the Teeling Whiskey Distillery in Newmarket, Dublin 8, for the Spirit of Dublin Summer Craft Fair this Saturday (July 8). The event will run from 10am-5:30pm and is free of charge for all attendees. Over 30 of Ireland’s finest food & drinks producers will be popping up at this year’s event, showcasing their crafty creations under one roof with something for everyone. The Teeling team will also be on hand to make sure visitors enjoy a delicious Irish whiskey with a sample of our carefully crafted cocktails.
Let us Entertain You
The Inchicore Variety Group is presenting their annual summer show from Tuesday, July 4 to Friday 7 at 8pm each evening at the Oblate Hall Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore.
‘Let us Entertain You’ is a mixture of song, dance and comedy sketches. Admission is €12 for adults, €6 for children and €10 for seniors and students. Group bookings are also available. Barretstown Big Picnic
Fossett’s Circus takes centre stage at Barretstown’s Big Picnic, to be held on July 8. Stock up on great grub and fine wines at Honest2Goodness food market this Saturday. The weekly market has fresh meat, vegetables, fish, baked goods and wines. Brother and sister team, Colm and Brid Carter, who run Honest2Goodness are passionate foodies and their aim is to share their love with as many as possible.
