Camera club focuses on exhibition
Malahide Camera Club’s fourth exhibition will open to the public from 12noon on Saturday, February 11 until Sunday, February 26.
The exhibition will take place again this year at the local Parish Pastoral Centre, adjacent to the St Sylvester’s Parish Church, in Malahide Main Street.
A total of 139 images will be exhibited, displaying a variety of genres of photography that the club’s members feel will delight, stimulate and move the viewers. Of significant interest this year is that there is a particular emphasis on images of Fingal.
The Magnificent Obsession
The Irish Film Institute (IFI) will present a Valentine’s Night screening of Douglas Sirk’s ‘Magnificent Obsession’ as part of their monthly Bigger Picture strand on Tuesday, February 14 at 6.30pm.
Throughout the 1950s Sirk’s name became synonymous with melodramas or ‘Women’s Pictures’ as they were dismissively known at the time.
There will be an introduction by award winning filmmaker and lecturer, Steven Benedict.

Beyond Caravaggio
The highly anticipated exhibition, ‘Beyond Caravaggio’, opens at the National Gallery of Ireland, Clare Street, Dublin 2, on Saturday, February 11.
It brings together over 40 major works, including four master paintings by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610), complemented by other significant masterpieces by his followers, the Caravaggisti.
Many of the works in the show are on loan from private collections, and regional galleries, and this will, therefore, be a rare opportunity for visitors to see works not easily available to the public.

Royal Marine Hotel Antiques and Vintage Fair
Des and Karen Gallagher will be showing at Sunday’s Antiques and Vintage Fair in the Royal Marine Hotel. An expert in antique silver, Des has only recently begun exhibiting in Dublin and will have a fine selection of collectible Irish and European silver on display.
In fact, on February 12 the Royal Marine Hotel will play host to 40 specialists in antiques, fine art and vintage fashion, including members of the Irish Antique Dealers Association. Opening hours are 11am till 6pm. Information from 0872670607.
A little taste of Rory
John Wilson is one of the most respected musicians on the Irish music scene. He was part of the first wave of Irish musicians to help put Irish rock and blues music on the worldwide stage.
John is joined by Sam Davidson a well-known singer and guitarist in the blues scene and by bass player Alan Niblock at a Rory Gallagher tribute night in the dlr Mill Theatre, Dundrum Town Centre, on Saturday, February 11 at 8pm. Tickets are €18 /concession €16
Young musicians for National Concert Hall
The 22nd Festival of Youth Orchestras takes place at the National Concert Hall on Saturday, February 11.

Ceoltóirí Chluain Tarbh Spring Concert
There’s a great night of Trad happening in Axis Ballymun at 8pm on Saturday, February 11 from Ceoltóirí Chluain Tarbh.
This is non-profit community based organisation dedicated to the promotion of Traditional Irish music, song, dance and culture and the evening will be a showcase of the club’s talented young musicians who will be assisted by some very special guests that have had a long association with this great organisation. Back to the ‘80s
Following the success of their previous sell out shows ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘Honk!’, ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘Oliver!’, the pupils of Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa Íosa return to Draíocht’s stage this week to present ‘Back to the 80’s’.
The show tells the story of the senior class of William Ocean High School that graduated in the 1980s, as remembered and seen through the eyes of Corey Palmer, who is now 30-something. Join the cast as they experience the fun, heartbreak, loves and loneliness of growing up, all set to the biggest hits of the ‘80s.
The show is at 8pm on Wednesday to Friday (Feb 8-10) and 2pm and 8pm on Saturday, February 11. Tickets cost €15 from draiocht.ie.
Darwin Day 2017: Chimp Chats
The Natural History Museum is celebrating Darwin Day from 2.30-4pm on Sunday, February 12 by inviting the public to pop in to see the apes and monkeys on display upstairs.
There’s a chance to chat to a zoologist and stand face to face with our closest living relatives during this drop-in activity. No booking required and the event is suitable for all ages.
