A Neil Diamond Spectacular with the voice of Derek Keys and his six-piece band plus support acts will take place at the White Sands Hotel, Portmarnock, this Saturday, September 24 (9pm) in the Martello Room. 

 

Derek, from Donaghmede, is a professional singer and entertainer. The voice of Neil Diamond, he is now taking the show on the road all over Ireland and England.

Flower show

Clontarf Gardening Society’s Autumn Flower Show will take place at St Anthony’s Hall, Clontarf Road this Sunday September 25. Doors open to the public from 2pm-5pm. 

 

There will be a plant sale, cake sale, bookstall and raffle. Admission is free and all are welcome. Parking to the rear of hall via St Lawerence Road.

 

Walk in the park

Dublin Festival of History 

Dublin City Council has announced details of the fourth Dublin Festival of History programme, which begins this weekend. 

 

A wide range of compelling free events for history lovers of all ages will take place from September 23 to October 8, at Dublin Castle Printworks and venues around the city.  

This year’s festival will once again bring a stellar line-up of historians to Dublin. 

There will be talks from world-class historians and writers on historical events, events that changed the course of history and events that changed the lives of ordinary Dubliners.

The Importance of Being Oscar

After a triumphant, though brief, run last May, Michael Judd returns to Bewley’s Café Theatre@Powerscourt on September 26 with MacLiammoír’s The Importance of Being Oscar in an edited show for lunchtime.

 

This is a compelling theatrical tapestry revealing the wit, triumph and tragedy of Oscar Wilde in an explosion of richness, boldness, passion and beauty. It includes excerpts from The Importance of Being Earnest, An Ideal Husband and a particularly moving Ballad of Reading Gaol. Powerscourt Townhouse is directly behind Bewley’s Cafe.

Exhibition

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is inviting people to explore the mountainous areas of the county in an exhibition programme that includes drawings, sculptures, talks and tours.

 

The show, which will exhibit in dlr LexIcon until November 5, is called ‘Lines of Negotiation: Mapping the Land’ and was curated by Claire Behan, with assistance from people who live in, or are connected with, the Glencullen/Tibradden area.

The artists exhibiting their work in the Municipal Gallery include Katherine Atkinson, Bernadette Beecher, Diana Caramaschi, Anne Cradden, Kathyrn Maguire, Patricia McKenna, Ida Mitrani, Kiera O’Toole and Nicholas Ryan. Ich Liebe Dich Cabaret!

Film Fatale, producers of Prohibition at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, one of Europe’s biggest 1920s parties, is making its Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival debut this September 24 at 9.30pm in the Spiegeltent at Merrion Square.

Vintage Tea Tours

Michael Collins Walking Tour

Michael Collins was one of the most important IRA leaders to emerge during the struggle for Irish freedom in the early 20th century. From his role in the 1916 Rising, Collins went on to become Director of Intelligence for the IRA and President of the IRB during the War of Independence. 

 

His namesake, Lorcan Collins is famed for the Dublin 1916 Rebellion Walking Tour but he’s now introduced a  Michael Collins Walking Tour, which is equally as informative and entertaining. The two-hour tour starts at 3pm daily from the International Bar on Wicklow Street and costs €15.

 

 

City Zipline

Live in the moment and do something that makes your day one to remember! Centra’s City Zipline is free but it’s only available for one day on Friday, September 23, from 12.30-7pm. 

 

As well as the zipline adventure, there will be lots of entertainment and refreshments on the day. Fitness expert Pat Divilly will be hosting workout sessions, there will be nutritional advice from dietician Sarah Keogh, hurling tips from GAA legend Henry Shefflin and music and more from top Irish DJ Marcus O’Laoire.
