WHO would win in a fight between Batman and Superman? A question that man has pondered since the dawn of time.
A debate that has inspired countless episodes of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, kept restless nerds across the globe from a good night’s sleep, and no doubt, in some part of the universe, caused otherwise healthy relationships to terminate under the weight of irreconcilable differences of opinion.
Personally, I couldn’t care less, so maybe I’m not the right person to be reviewing this movie, but I’m fully aware that for many, this is the cinematic equivalent of the second coming.
The film tells the story of Gotham’s Batman, who, fearing the actions of a God-like Super Hero left unchecked, takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day saviour, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs.
And with our champions now at war, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
The movie is directed by Zack Snyder (‘Man of Steel’ and ‘300’) and stars Ben Affleck as batty Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill as a smoldering Superman and Gal Godot as the wizardly Wonder Woman.
Other cast members include Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Batman’s sidekick, Alfred.
The film starts with the same scene we’ve witnessed countless times before in other versions, i.e. the murder of Bruce Wayne’s parents, but it’s shot in an original way that provides hope for what’s to come over the next 150 minutes.
The story requires a lot of setting up before we finally get going, due to its dual protagonists, but once it does, the 250-million-dollar budget is quickly spent.
I kind of wished however, that all the money was gone by the two-hour mark, so the writers would have to come up with a clever ending but alas, this is where I switched off, just as the CGI monster appeared, the explosion count increased and the decibel level went off the scale. We score it a decent, if not amazing, 3 out of 5 stars.
