DUBLIN and Meath fixtures are always close, hard fought encounters so it was no surprise that this Under 14 Championship match between these two great Leinster rivals would prove to be another thriller.
Dublin edged out the Royals on a scoreline of 3-10 to 5-2.
Despite the testing weather conditions both teams gave it their all, serving up an exciting game of football which was thoroughly enjoyed by the large crowd in attendance.
Dublin led 2-5 to 1-0 at half-time with their goals coming from Amy O’Brien and Rachel Fagan while Rebecca King was on target for Meath.
Meath began to come into the game more in the second half putting the Dublin back line under fierce pressure, firing high ball in on top of the Dubs’ full back line. Olivia Gore and Emma Duggan both found the back of the Dublin net.
Dublin responded well to the onslaught tagging on 1-2 without reply with Niamh Cummins bagging Dublin’s three-pointer. Meath reapplied the pressure and were rewarded with a fourth goal coming from the boot of Maebh Byrne.
A Meath penalty left just two points in it but Dublin hung on for victory.
Dublin’s next fixture is on March 12 away to Wexford.
